Not about sales but about shopping

Some Christmas gift ideas

By Sister72

Have you started Christmas shopping yet? We are entering the month of December which means the Christmas shopping season is hotting up! Its not too late to take a little time to give some thoughts to the gifts you are giving people.

All too often I myself have been guilty of giving gifts I bought at the last minute and then find that the recipient does not enjoy it or its not for them.

So, here are some practical gifts you can consider for the people in your lives:-

  • membership to a wine of the month club – They’ll receive a bottle of wine every month so they get gifts the whole year round!
  • gift certificates or vouchers for a book store – I like this for children to inculcate the love of reading. Look in MPH or Borders or Kinokuniya
  • Puzzles for kids because it helps them think while playing
  • Luxury food hampers – for friends or family who enjoy their food

Alternatively you could buy a cake of the month membership and use it to send cakes all year round to your friends! I didn’t even know this existed.

I always start my shopping early to make sure I pick up some good deals along the whole year. This way, I make sure some thought goes into my gifts and that I have the time to pick them up at good prices. After all, I’m sure my recipient would also appreciate the fact that I didn’t have to break my bank to get it for them! :)

Celine End of Season Clearance

When I visited the FJ Benjamin sale at Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur on Friday, I was quite surprised to see that there was also a Celine End of Season clearance in a little room. It was quite empty when I was there and since I love bags and have never been able to afford a Celine, I popped in to see if anything was on offer.

There was, and I was seriously tempted!! I saw this one (bagsnob):-

It was a rich deep red and was on sale for RM2600 for the smaller version. For a full leather bag from a leading luxury fashion brand, I was not overly shocked at the price, but thought it a great deal. The bag flaps over to close and I thought it very unique.

Serious temptation there!

A chance to go to a Gala Night

I was at the MIFA or Malaysian International Fashion Alliance Award ceremony last night. This is also known as the Malaysian Fashion week where designers and new fashion designers get their leg up in the fashion industry.

During the reception and the after award party, I had the opportunity to see some famous faces in the modelling, fashion and movie scenes and my first thought when seeing most of them were, “Oh my! They are so skinny!” and I wondered quite unkindly if they were all on some kind of alli weight loss diet. I was probably twice their size :P Ok, I exaggerate, but they were very skinny.

My second thought was “I’m a midget” because these models are all amazingly tall. I stood next to one and only came up to her shoulders. Serious midget territory. It would make any woman feel insecure. Lucky for me, the people I associate with and see most of the time aren’t unnaturally tall or thin or I”d have a serious complex! :P

Still, it was fun and I’m still compiling my photos from the night for my other blogs.

How I deal with the 4GB EeePC limited memory

Earlier on when I was being a sour grape and whining about my 4GB EeePc, I failed to mention how I got around the little itty bitty bit of 4GB computer memory in that little baby.

What I and many other people do, is use a thumb drive or pendrive. These days, pen drives go all the way beyond 16GB which is 4 times the capacity of the EeePC hard drive! Others use a portable hard drive, which I don’t because a portable hard drive is much more expensive than a pen drive. True, a pen drive is not always 100% stable all the time and can be easily corrupted, still, I don’t use it to store important information but rather to use it to transport my files from one computer to another.

People who have used the portable hard drive have even been able to run the older EeePC on Windows XP which is saying a lot, because Windows takes up a LOT of memory! I haven’t gotten round to trying it. Perhaps I should. Even prices of portable hard drives have come down :)
