Not about sales but about shopping

Warehouse Sale – Gap, Banana Republic, Guess, La Senza MORE!

Yes folks! Its that time again for the FJ Benjamin warehouse clearance sale. The last time I was there, I was one of the early birds and I only picked up 1 Banana Republic Dress at RM200. Not cheap.

However, I like going to this sale to pick up nice cheap(ish) La Senza underwear and pyjamas. I wonder if La Senza have wondered why their stores never seem to have people walking in to buy products. Its because everyone is waiting for the warehouse sale to stock up!! Haha…

I offered some tips for those planning to go shopping at clothes warehouse sales before but here’s another:-

  • Try to wear contact lenses instead of glasses. In the process of pulling on clothes over your head in public and in the rush of trying on clothes so you can do some serious damage to your glasses. In the last sale I saw a girl’s glasses drop off her face while she pulled off the top she was trying on. Lucky for her it fell onto a soft pile of clothes or it would have been an expensive shopping trip!

This latest FJ Benjamin sale comes at a good time – just before Christmas so now’s a great time to pick up Christmas presents at discounted prices! Great especially for kids wear and watches and underwear.

The presale for HSBC credit card holders is on 28 November 2008 (additional 10% discount when paying with HSBC credit card) and the sale is open to the public on 29 and 30 November 2008.

Venue: Orchid Ballroom, Level 2 Parkroyal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

Time: 10am-7pm

This time, I’m not queueing in the morning. I’ll just try my luck later in the day and maybe take the Monorail instead of driving because I can just imagine the traffic and the jams!

Good luck everyone who’s going!

The Asus EeePC updated

I bought an Asus Eeepc when it was fairly new. To show you now new it was, I was running on the Linux version with 4GB hard drive and 7″ monitor. Ancient? And yet, it is only less than a year old!

I popped by an Asus store last week and felt like crying when I saw the latest EeePC laptop offerings.

Not only is the screen wider, it now runs on Windows XP and has up to 30G of space on its harddrive and up to 7 hours battery life. I felt like crying :( It also comes in swanky white.

Price wise, of course, there’s a large difference. I bought mine for about RM1200 and the new ones that run Windows XP are about RM2000 and up. That said, I did see one running on Windows XP that had slightly lower specs for about RM1500 or thereabouts. Am I jealous? You bet!!

All that said though, I do like my EeePC for its portability. Nevermind the small space (i never store anything on it) or the small screen (its not meant to replace your regular laptop or desktop) or the short battery life (the charger is smaller than some phone chargers). Its still mine! :)

Displaying photos a digital way

With a wedding in the family (not mine!) it is only inevitable that the question of “Where are your wedding photos?” come up from time to time. The thing is that some photographers take the photos but charge a separate price to prepare an album. I’m not referring to those who go with bridal studio packages. Those are a different kettle of fish and you usually end up with a wedding photo album so heavy you need a crane to lift it out of its box. Ok, I’m exaggerating, but you might pull a muscle if you aren’t careful.

So, when I passed by a photo store one day and saw this digital frame in the window display, I immediately thought it would make a great gift! All the couple has to do is upload their wedding photos into the digital frame, and play it back for anyone who wants to view it. It is also ultra portable unlike a giant album that is so heavy no one would voluntarily pick it up. :)

I think it was retailing for RM100+ in one of the major photo stores in town for smaller sizes and RM200+ for the larger ones. I can’t quite remember. But this is reminding me to check it out!

Always check for the Health Ministry’s approval

We can’t deny that we are now in the age of instant results. When we go to a restaurant, we no longer want to wait for our food and we get impatient when we do. We forget that food preparation is an art. We want to get our food NOW and eat NOW hence the proliferation of fast food restaurants.

With all that instant food comes instant fat and then we want instant results in getting rid of that fat – liposuction, plastic surgery, tummy tucks, never ending searches for the best diet pill to get rid of that fat RIGHT NOW!

Well, if you belong in that category of wanting to take a diet pill in the hope that it will help you lose weight quickly without having to exercise and cut back on food, be sure to do your research first. Remember, it is medication and that means it comes under the Health Ministry and they have to obtain the Ministry’s approval before letting the product go on sale. This is to ensure that the product is safe for consumption even if it might have other side effects. At least you know you aren’t going to die from taking a poisonous pill!

Here is a link to the Health Ministry’s site where you can check if a pharmaceutical product has passed the Health Ministry’s approval. It not only covers pharmaceuticals and medicines but also cosmetics and skincare! Don’t believe me? Try searching for Bobbi Brown and you’ll see a whole long list of items plus their owners/distributors. Pretty cool tool! :)
