Not about sales but about shopping

Stuffed yet? :)

How did Christmas go for everyone? Were you as stuffed as the turkey was? :)

Well, with the New Year just round the corner (is it any wonder any work is getting done at all this week?) and more feasting ahead, I’m so stuffed I might need diet pills before I fit into my new Chinese New Year clothes! :D

Yep, for the Chinese, the feasting doesn’t stop this holiday but continues all the way through January with yee sang coming up soon on the menus. :) I’m going to have to hit the gym soon before I burst out of my new clothes!

Happy New Year everyone!

Tropicana City Mall – A new mall to visit

I popped by the new Tropicana City Mall to check it out during the weekend. According to the newspapers, it was opened to the public on 18 December 2008 which I reckon is for purposes of the Christmas crowd. I was there on Sunday and did not notice much of a crowd.

In fact most people there were curious about the place or maybe people living around the Damansara Utama and Damansara Jaya area.

If you come from the Sprint Highway, it is easy to make a mistake and turn into Damansara Intan. So keep your eyes peeled for the signs and turn AFTER the Damansara Intan (San Francisco Steakhouse) turnoff. Parking for now is underground and is free. You still have to take a ticket, but its free parking for now.

The mall is still relatively untenanted. The main tenants are Carrefour and the GSC Cinema. However, neither are open for now. Carrefour has its signs up but shutters are closed. GSC on the top floor has no sign of activity.

I found that I nearly slipped and fell a few times because the tiles were very slippery with dust. I attribute it to the ongoing construction in and around the mall that is still going on despite the mall being opened to the public. The construction dust makes the tiles rather treacherous.

There is also no ATM up just yet and I noticed that none of the stores can accept credit cards just yet because their phone lines are not in. Due to that, I was unable to make a number of planned purchases.

I found the layout of the Tropicana City Mall rather haphazard. From where I parked, I had to walk the whole length of the mall before I could find an escalator to go to the main concourse area. There isn’t much available in terms of food just yet too.

I reckon it will be a mall to serve the neighbourhood, much like Bangsar Village or Bangsar Shopping Centre. If you live outside of the area, it is pretty much just another mall unless you plan to visit some of the specialty boutiques or stores in the mall.

I will pop by from time to time because I have a friend who has set up shop there. However, other than that, I cannot see myself using it as a hangout place unless you live in the area.

Airasia offers free tickets to Thailand

Get your bhat to Thailand! That’s what Airasia wants you to do by offering you 100,000 free tickets to Thailand. Promotion is for travel from Jan-March 2009. Good for those who are planning a trip to Thailand – Phuket or Krabi or Bangkok.

I did some test bookings for Bangkok (that’s always my preferred destination in Thailand) and found that the free tickets are available mostly for travel on weekdays. Forget weekends and public holidays. Air asia has taken care of that :P

I did not make any bookings just yet. I’m not decided if i’m going or not, but if you want to plan a quick holiday then do check it out. If you get free tickets both ways, the total cost is under RM200 per person! No more fuel surcharge remember? So the price is lower than before. Good time to go to Bangkok. Maybe even use the money you’d have spent on your flight to stay in a nice hotel ala vegas hotels. Heh… but I never do because I’m only in there to sleep and dump my shopping – otherwise I’m out the whole day!

L’oreal One Day Consumer Products Sale

I was in Damansara Uptown this afternoon when I saw that L’oreal consumer products is having a one day sale at the Car Park at the Uptown office block. Among the brands I saw were L’oreal, Garnier, Maybelline and other consumer products.

I’m not going for this one because I just know the traffic is going to be horrendous! If you plan to go to Damansara Uptown tomorrow, 19 Dec 2008 DON’T! I can just imagine how jammed the roads will be. Its bad enough on normal days but with a clearance sale on *shudder*

I’m waiting for the Luxury products sale instead where I know there will be some items I will need from there. Thankfully a cosmetics warehouse sale needs no trying on nor Leptorexin to make you thin before you can wear it. As long as you know the cream or product suits you, you are good to go!

If you plan to go to the L’oreal one day sale tomorrow, make sure you are there early to pick up some good deals. I’ve been there and done that so tomorrow I’ll be sleeping in :)
