Not about sales but about shopping

Envirosax – reducing the use of plastic bags

Malaysians are generally not an eco friendly lot. I don’t mean this in a derogatory way. I myself am Malaysian and I’m not always eco-friendly either. However, I try and the main way I’m trying is in reducing the use of plastic bags.

Envirosax

I use the Envirosax which I go grocery shopping. I love the new Botanica design!

These wonderfully thin and compact polyester bags are surprisingly very strong and can fit a ton. They fit up to 20kg which is equivalent to 2 bags of rice! I’ve never tried it myself (my shoulder would drop off) but its apparently been tested and it works.

The best part is that they roll up into a very compact tube that can fit in your back jeans pocket. So, there is no excuse to say you forgot your reusable bag the next time you go shopping. I keep one at home and one in my handbag so I always have access to it.

However, I must admit I don’t always say no to plastic bags. I use plastic bags for my rubbish so when my stocks run low, I still say yes to a plastic bag or two. If I use it for my rubbish, does it count as recycling too?

Envirosax reusable bags can be purchased at Tiny Tapir in Malaysia. Don’t expect nice shipping boxes to come from them – they are an eco-friendly store after all! But your goods will come safe which is whats more important.

I love the Envirosax bags. I use eco bags a lot in Australia, which is encouraged. When I use it here in M’sia, apparently a few eyebrows were raised. I mean, come on, a plastic bag for a tiny mobilephone pouch?! Sales assistants were surprised that I don’t need a bag.

    Sigh.

@Tine: Yes I like them too – so useful and easy to tote around. I got the funny looks before but I refuse plastic bags for most small things… unless i have a need for small rubbish bags :P

Just letting everybody know that Tiny Tapir does not stock Envirosax anymore (we do have residue stock that we will be clearing).

Our bag of choice is the RuMe reusable shopping bag. The design is slightly different because it has a box cut. It folds up like the Envirosax too, so it’s easy to put in your pocket/bag for shopping. Also, there are 3 different sizes – Mini, Regular and Macro (an extra large one for big boxes) and each hold up 20kg per bag.

Please go to http://tinytapir.wordpress.com/2009/03/13/envirosax-drama-why-tiny-tapir-no-longer-carries-envirosax/ as to why Tiny Tapir stopped stocking Envirosax.

I bumped into your website while surfing for Envirosax. Well, what can I say is I think Tiny Tapir has ripped everyone off with their ridiculous price of eco bags here. When they were the distributor to Envirosax they sold them at RM30+++ and now I see the bags everywhere (under diff distributor) at less than RM25!. Some even sold them at 2 for only RM30!!!

I cannot imagine an eco bags sold at more than RM30, no matter how nice.
