Not about sales but about shopping

Read the fine print when ordering online

Whilst online shopping is now the norm compared to say 10 years ago, it still pays to read the fine print. Sometimes, free shipping or a free trial may come with conditions and if you don’t comply, then you might be out of pocket. I read the consumer reviews and comments attached to Avesil and I must say it certainly drives home the point.

When I shop online here are a few things I look out for:-

  • Conditions of returning
  • whether they ship internationally
  • How much is shipping
  • Does shipping include packaging

Sometimes companies sneakily tick boxes for gift wrap which might cost a fee so make sure you check and un check the necessary boxes when you run through your order.

Shopping online is convenient but it pays to be vigilant too.

Which price should you pay?

In a toss up between the price on the shelf or on the pricetag and the lower price picked up by the barcode scanner, which price should you pay?

I know that in many overseas stores, they do honour the lower price shown on the till. Its an honour code that says “Yes we screwed up so we’ll let you have the price – lucky you!” I had this happen in Harrods where I picked up a lot of teas that were wrongly marked for a song. They were quick to remedy that mind you!

Over here, I’ve usually had to pay the higher sum. It looks like there’s no similar policy here. Pity really. It might teach the people labelling items a lesson if they made a loss. It’ll teach them to be more careful in future!

Etsy Creativity

Ever since discovering Etsy I’ve been hooked. Not only am I scouring it most days for handmade goodies, I’ve been fired to craft my own things!

Never mind that I can’t sew :P I’m not familiar with haberdashery stores here though. I know there are some in Chinatown – I went to one with a huge collection of ribbons and buttons. In fact, the store specialized in buttons of all sorts! So pretty! I know high point nc fabric stores stock prettier things. AT least it looks that way when I see the stuff people come up with on Etsy.

I’ll keep looking. I’m sure it can’t all be bad here… and maybe I’d be creative too :D

Taking Fitness to your home

Almost every morning, I hear an ad on the radio for Fitness Concept or some fitness store. Essentially, they tell you that they can come to your home to advise you on what machines you need or can buy from them.

I was quite fascinated by this. It reminded me of the travelling encyclopedia salesman from my youth. They’d come to your house, and show off their collection and you can buy it and pay by installments.

Problem is, I don’t know how the fitness people will be able to show off their machines! Its not like something that can fit in the back of their car eh? It might be easier to take weight loss supplements but I guess that won’t help muscle tone.

Makes me curious to call them just to see how they run their pitch. LOL
